The catch-22 of the unsupportive advisor

Some advisors are universally unsupportive. Others are more selective. The result seems to generally be the same: failure of the unsupported. So the question is:

Do we fail due to lack of support?

Or do we not get support because we are failures?

  1. Generally I think it's the first... but I think many of us who find ourselves in this type of situation often ask the second one of ourselves. It's a tough situation to be in.

  2. I agree. Unfortunatly, I think the unsupportive advisors often have some major cognitive bias. All successes are credited to them, and all failures are someone else's fault. Ugh.
